Prof. Dr. Lena Barra holds the professorship for Systemic Chemical Biology at the University of Konstanz since May 1, 2022. Previously, she conducted research at the University of Tokyo.

Goals

With the newly established professorship "Systemic Chemical Biology", the University of Konstanz aims to further strengthen its lighthouse function in the field of chemical biology. The focus of the professorship is on research into the molecular mechanisms of secondary metabolic pathways of pharmaceutically relevant natural substances from, for example, medicinal plants, animals or microorganisms. Furthermore, she is concerned with the sustainable, efficient and ecologically compatible production of innovative active ingredients.
Professor Barra's appointment was supported by an additional PhD position and funding for a high-performance liquid chromatography instrument. Furthermore, funds for dual-career measures for Professor Barra's partner were approved.
