The project focus on the development of intelligent functional materials that change their structure or colour depending on temperature, humidity or chemicals.
Goals
The aim of the project is to use innovative materials and processes to develop sensory and active fibres that can be used in technical textiles and sustainable packaging concepts. To this end, chemical-, temperature- and moisture-switchable functional and indicator materials are being developed for intelligent technical textiles and packaging. Intelligent technical textiles can then be used, for example, as a controllable filter for water vapour and thus to improve the microclimate for human well-being. Smart packaging can help save many tonnes of food from being thrown away by using indicators to measure the freshness of the food in the packaging and display it directly to consumers.
