Prof. Dr. Julia Berger, Professor of Applied Midwifery at Furtwangen University, uses AR-animated applications with interactive elements to improve the understanding of physiological and pathological processes during childbirth.

Goals

Expectant parents dream of a natural and complication-free birth. Ensuring and creating these conditions is one of the core tasks of midwives. The aim of the project is to use multimedia to make the processes of childbirth much clearer. In particular, the possibility of making the female pelvis and spine as well as the child visually visible in a 3D space and thus making both the physiological and pathological birth processes understandable promises a clear added value, high learning results and learning satisfaction. With the help of these visual possibilities, the various processes, but also their consequences, can be simulated and trained without endangering mother and child.
Within the scope of the project, the birth process will be described and written down in scenarios, these scenarios will be presented with the help of augmented reality applications and furthermore linked to the existing simulation mannequins. The developed applications will then be examined and evaluated together with students and experts in university teaching.
