Professorship for Molecular Nutritional Sciences

Topic: STEM impulses
Type of funding: Individual funding programmes
Funded institution:
  • Universität Hohenheim

Prof. Dr. Katrin Giller has occupied the professorship for Molecular Nutritional Sciences at the University of Hohenheim since October 1, 2023. Previously, she conducted research at ETH Zurich.

Goals

The professorship of Molecular Nutritional Sciences is assigned to the Faculty of Natural Sciences and forms the link between the Institute of Nutritional Sciences and the Institute of Nutritional Medicine. In the context of the research foci "Health Sciences" and "Future Food Systems", a cooperation with the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences will take place, which is possible due to the focus of Professor Giller's research on nutritional sciences for humans and mammals.

Specifically, Professor Giller will pursue the research question of how and through which molecular mechanisms both direct and parental uptake of bioactive food ingredients and alternative protein sources regulate physiological processes and to what extent these effects may persist across generations.

Professor Giller's appointment is supported by funding for a PhD position and investment funds.
