Visualisation and exploratory data analysis

Focus topic: Artificial Intelligence
Type of funding: Individual funding programmes
Programme: CZS Young talent programme
Funded institution:
  • Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena

Prof. Dr. Kai Lawonn has been appointed as junior professor for Visualisation and Explorative Data Analysis at the University of Jena starting winter semester 2019.

Goals

Professor Lawonn's research work deals with converting huge amounts of data into easily comprehensible models with the help of algorithms. The programmes developed in this way are used, among other things, in medical visualisation, which is intended to help doctors with diagnosis or surgery planning. With a new programme, Professor Lawonn's research team wants to reliably determine the probability of whether a patient will suffer a stroke or not. Many different factors such as patient information, vessel morphology and blood flow characteristics are taken into account, the interaction of which should lead to an improved prediction.
