Professorship for Natural Hazards and Structural Resilience

Topic: STEM impulses
Type of funding: Individual funding programmes
Funded institution:
  • Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Prof. Dr. Anastasia Athanasiou has taken up her position as Professor of Natural Hazards and Structural Resilience at Bauhaus University Weimar on July 3, 2023. Previously, she conducted research at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

Goals

The professorship Natural Hazards and Structural Resilience is strategically anchored within the profile-forming focus area "Material and Construction" of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It addresses the hazard assessment and risk evaluation of structures in natural hazards. Research focuses on structural modeling, simulation and measurement of complex impact conditions. This is associated with the design of engineering structures as well as the evaluation and optimization of existing structural facilities and infrastructure systems. This includes prediction models of structural safety and resilience in complex hazard scenarios. The effects of climate change and associated weather changes are also taken into account.

The appointment of Professor Athanasiou was supported by personnel, material and investment funds.
