Integrative Taxonomy of Insects

Topic: STEM impulses

Funded institution:
  • Universität Hohenheim

Prof. Dr. Christian Rabeling will become Professor of Integrative Taxonomy of Insects at the University of Hohenheim on 1 July 2022. He previously conducted research at Arizona State University, USA.

Goals

The topic of integrative taxonomy of insects is highly relevant, but has hardly been represented at German universities so far. At the University of Hohenheim, the professorship is to take on a pioneering role for Baden-Württemberg and beyond, with the aim of creating innovative teaching opportunities and enabling knowledge transfer to society. The latter is made possible by the Competence Centre for Biodiversity and Integrative Taxonomy, which is supported by the University of Hohenheim and the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart.

The appointment of Professor Rabeling was supported by two additional doctoral positions as well as the proportional financing of a stereo microscope incl. digital camera. Furthermore, funds were approved for dual-career measures for Professor Rabeling's partner.
