Goals

We are looking for outstanding young scientists who are aiming to implement exciting ideas at the interfaces between different STEM disciplines. In addition to an interdisciplinary nature, the research topic must be related to "Artificial Intelligence", "Resource Efficiency" or "Life Science Technologies". This connection can be, for example, the qualification of staff, the application of methods or the transfer of results in the application. An interdisciplinary orientation should already be evident in the applicants' backgrounds, in the design of the research project, in the planned composition of the team and in the institutional embedding of the group. The focus of the project can be both basic and application-orientated research. 

What are the application requirement specifications?

The proposed project 

  • will establish an independent working group at a state university or non-university research institution with affiliation to one of the four major research organisations (Fraunhofer Society, Helmholtz Association, Leibniz Association, Max Planck Society) (host institution).
  • is in the field of STEM at the interface between two or more subject areas according to the DFG subject classification system.
  • is related to one or more of the focus topics  "Artificial Intelligence", "Resource Efficiency" or "Life Science Technologies".

Who is eligible to apply?

Postdoctoral researchers who completed their doctorate no more than four years ago and who are planning to establish their own research group at a host institution in 

  • in Baden-Württemberg
  • Rhineland-Palatinate
  • Thuringia

are eligible to apply.

Duration

The funding period is five to six years. The earliest possible project start date is 1 October 2025 and the project must start by no later than 1 February 2026.

  • In addition to the requested project funding, the Carl Zeiss Stiftung will contribute a lump sum overhead amounting to 20% of the funding amount.
  • Project outlines and full proposals can only be submitted in digital format via the application portal of the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. Registration is required.
