Prof. Dr. Verena Klusmann-Weißkopf, Professor of Health Promotion and Prevention at Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences, systematizes photographically collected images of old age from central life worlds using AI to counter negative stereotypes.
Goals
Negative images of age lead to discrimination, e.g., when older people do not receive adequate training opportunities in their professional lives. In the health care system, negative images of age are reflected in inappropriate care and a lack of utilization. Images of old age already interact with preventive behavior and health care actions at a young age. And: Even longevity is influenced by images of aging and old age.
The KImAge project aims to clarify the structure and relative importance of age images in the everyday life of different age and population groups. By means of a photography-based method, images of old age in different everyday life settings (general population, working world, health care) are to be surveyed in a representative way. Based on a prototype model, an AI model will be trained and subsequently used for systematic evaluation. The findings will provide the basis for urgently needed, effective measures to promote differentiated age images.
