Management Responsibility

The public interest in the actions of leaders in business, society and politics has increased in recent years. When blatant misconduct by leaders becomes public, it raises the question of leadership responsibility.
The Carl Zeiss Foundation has taken on this topic and triggered a future-orientated momentum. It promotes research at the Universities of Tübingen (lead management), Jena and Mainz, which deal with this important topic, especially with regard to university curricula.

In a comprehensive empirical and conceptual study completed in 2016, over 600 mathematical, science, engineering and economics Bachelor's and Master's degrees were reviewed at universities in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia. Interviews were conducted with experts from the higher education sector and executives from the private sector were surveyed.

The results of the study demonstrate that the universities barely prepare the students for later management responsibility and that the topic is not embedded in the curricula.
