Scalable data and computationally intensive analyses

Focus topic: Artificial Intelligence
Type of funding: Individual funding programmes
Programme: CZS Endowed Professorships
Funded institution:
  • Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena

Prof. Dr Alexander Breuer was appointed as Endowed Professor for Scalable Data and Computationally Intensive Analyses at the University of Jena starting winter semester 2020.

Goals

Prof. Dr. Breuer's research focus is on high-performance computing with applications in the computational sciences. In Jena, he deals with the design, implementation and analysis of algorithms for solving real problems in science and technology. In order to meet the high demands on data processing, communication and computation, these problems are usually solved by interdisciplinary approaches that combine complementary skills from the fields of mathematics and computer science.
Professor Breuer studied mathematics at the Technical University of Munich, where he received his doctorate in computer science. He then worked at the University of California, San Diego, before moving to the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics in Kaiserslautern in 2019.
