Process Engineering 4.0: Machine Learning and Physical Modelling

Focus topic: Artificial Intelligence
Type of funding: Project funding programmes
Programme: CZS Perspectives
Funded institution:
  • Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau

The project is about bringing together machine learning and physical modelling. The two funded junior professors are looking at process engineering processes from basic material data to industrial processes.

Goals

Artificial intelligence, especially machine learning, is becoming increasingly important for industrial plants: plants are supposed to learn independently based on their own data. The physical knowledge about such plants already exists. What is missing, however, is the merging of both areas. Prof. Dr. Sophie Burkhardt and Prof. Dr. Fabian Jirasek are working on this topic. The two funded junior professors are cooperating closely to create Process Engineering 4.0. They are part of an interdisciplinary group with experienced researchers from engineering, computer science, mathematics and chemistry.
