The aim of the project is to develop an intelligent natural fibre composite material with integrated sensors. The sensors enable continuous monitoring and thus reliable statements on the stability of the ultra-light composite material.
Goals
Natural fiber composites have long been used in the automotive sector, for example for insulation and sound absorption. New findings in research into the properties of the materials also enable these composite materials to be used as load-bearing elements in structures. In vehicle construction, for example, they make for particularly lightweight and thus energy-efficient and environmentally friendly design and manufacture. The aim of the funded project is to make natural fiber composites suitable for use in components subject to high mechanical loads by means of integrated intelligent sensor technology. The central pilot application will be the development of highly stressed structural and body parts for highly efficient vehicles.
