Prof. Dr. Pascal Neis was appointed Endowed Professor for Geo-Government at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences in the winter semester 2018.
Goals
For some years now, the digital workflows of administrative processes at the national or even European level have been influencing administrative activities to an increasing extent. According to various estimates, the spatial reference plays an important role for about 80 percent of all administrative action. For specialised administrations, a variety of challenges and opportunities will arise in the future due to current developments in the area of standards or in the interoperability and provision of (geo)data.
Professor Neis' research activities are dedicated to these challenges and will take place at different levels. On the one hand, it focuses on the further development of spatial data infrastructures, taking into account e-government at the different levels
(global, European and national). In addition to new questions and possibilities related to Open Government, current and future-oriented topics such as the Open Data trend in the context of geo-government will also be addressed. Professor Neis has many years of experience in research and development in the context of Volunteered Geographic Information and its applications. This aspect with a focus on the longer-term quality assurance of Open Data is part of the research work.
