Prof. Dr. Christian Friedrich, Professor of Artificial Intelligence in Production is researching the development of intelligent software services that enable robotic systems to independently generate and execute assembly and disassembly plans.

Goals

Assembly robots today are mostly used for repetitive, cognitively simple work. Flexible processes for individualized products are usually performed manually. Although robot systems already have the flexibility to perform these tasks, programming and reconfiguring the assembly processes would not be economical.

The research project will therefore develop methods for automated planning of disassembly and assembly sequences based on design data (such as CAD) and camera data. The planning sequences developed in this way are to be translated into corresponding control programs for industrial robot systems. The goal is to be able to implement the entire process chain from the planning of the sequences to disassembly or assembly automatically by robots.
