By means of learning processes, the production system developed here reacts to product specifications and varying conditions. In the "remanufacturing" use case, discarded products are cut up and individual components are returned to production.

Goals

How can a factory autonomously adapt to constantly changing conditions? The "AgiProbot" research project at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is addressing precisely this question. Remanufacturing represents an ideal use case here: Used products come back to the factory in an unknown state at an unknown time and in an unknown quantity and are to be dismantled here as automatically as possible. Selected components are to be returned to the production processes. The project pursues the goal of designing an agile production system to dynamically react to uncertain product specifications by means of artificial intelligence. The issue is being addressed in the form of an interdisciplinary research group of several institutes from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology as well as computer science in order to bundle complementary competencies in a targeted manner.
