100 years of planetarium - financing of a planetarium show

Topic: STEM impulses
Type of funding: Small funding projects
Programme: CZS Impulse
Funded institution:
  • Gesellschaft Deutschsprachiger Planetarien e.V.

Funding is provided for the creation of an internationally broadcasted planetarium production to celebrate the 100th anniversary of planetariums.

Goals

October 21, 1923 is considered the birthday of the projection planetarium. Walther Bauersfeld, designer and managing director of the Carl Zeiss Jena company, presented the commissioned development for the first time at the annual meeting of the Museum Committee of the German Museum in Munich. Today, there are over 4000 planetariums in 99 countries. Planetariums fulfill an educational mission and are also committed to culture. The history of the planetarium started in Germany and has been closely linked to our foundation company ZEISS ever since. The Society of German-Speaking Planetariums (GDP) would like to use the 100th anniversary to tell the story of planetariums with a special planetarium production and thus make it possible to experience the importance of planetariums in our society. The production will be aimed at planetarium visitors of all ages, but especially at arousing the interest of young people and young adults, an age group that is underrepresented in planetariums. Funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation, the production in English and German will be made available to all planetariums free of charge.
