The Phytotechnikum, a high-tech greenhouse for climate research & bioeconomy at the University of Hohenheim, was inaugurated in a ceremony on 27 September. The two-bay, high-tech greenhouse with computer-controlled, precisely synchronisable technology and a modular design replaces some of the individual greenhouses scattered throughout the campus. With four million euros, the Carl Zeiss Foundation financed about half of the construction costs. Another four million euros were provided by the state of Baden-Württemberg as well as 300,000 euros by the University of Hohenheim.

‘For us, the support from the Carl Zeiss Foundation was the decisive push to get it started,’ said the Rector of the University of Hohenheim, Prof. Stephan Dabbert, on the morning of the inauguration day.
