Prof. Dr. Christina Schwarz of Aalen University is conducting research on realistic simulation and precise evaluation of innovative ophthalmic corrective solutions. The aim is to shorten development cycles and strengthen technology transfer.
Goals
Professor Christina Schwarz's ViSiBLe project is conducting research at Aalen University at the interface between photonics and ophthalmic optics.
The aim of the project is to develop a binocular adaptive optics system as a simulation platform for innovative lens designs to enable personalized vision correction.
The system enables the mapping of both continuous profiles (e.g. progression zones in progressive lenses) and discontinuous structures (e.g. bifocal or DIMS lenses). By controlling the phase profiles of both eyes independently, aberrations can be manipulated in a targeted manner and their effects investigated under realistic conditions.
Methodological development in ophthalmic optics is stagnating, while the need for individually tailored corrections is growing due to increasing myopia prevalence and demographic change. Personalized procedures are therefore scientifically, socially and economically relevant.
The project creates a research environment for clinically and industrially relevant applications, provides a comparative database for current designs and enables the personalization of optical concepts.
