Focus: Resource efficiency Talents
Type of funding: Project funding programmes
Programme: CZS Individual funding

  • Pforzheim University

A "Sustainability in Engineering Education" (NHIng) competence center is being set up at Pforzheim University. The aim is to make sustainability an integral part of Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in the Faculty of Engineering.

Goals

The NHIng Competence Center develops sustainability content for existing courses and designs new courses.

The establishment of the center will also create an organizational framework to anchor the topic of sustainability in the curricula of the Faculty of Engineering at the university in the long term. The focus is on engineering courses at the Faculty of Engineering, but also on interdisciplinary courses with the Faculties of Design and Business and Law.

Responsible action and the promotion of sustainability transformation should become a matter of course for engineering graduates. To this end, new compulsory elective modules (e.g. Sustainable Process Engineering, Methods of Technology Assessment) are being developed, the implementation of sustainability topics in existing core curricula is being promoted and an interdisciplinary sustainability laboratory with technology demonstrators is being set up. In addition, didactic concepts and networking opportunities are being developed for teaching staff in order to anchor the topic of sustainability comprehensively at the university.
