Reality check: Fake or fact in the age of generative AI

Focus: Artificial Intelligence Science Communication
Type of funding: Individual funding programmes
Programme: CZS Plus
Funded institution:
  • Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences

This project aims to sensitize young people to the challenges and dangers of fake news in social networks and support teachers in their educational work.

Goals

Two thirds of young people come across fake news on social networks. However, this socially relevant topic is rarely discussed in schools and how to deal with it is rarely reflected upon.

This project aims to strengthen the media skills and critical thinking of the younger generation by confronting them with AI fakes using VR glasses or tablets.

In addition to this application, didactic materials for teachers will be created with which the topic can be further explored in the classroom. A symposium will also promote an exchange between those responsible at schools, education experts and researchers.

The project is located at the interface between AI and education. It was developed through close collaboration with students, teachers and the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Matthias Wölfel at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Matthias Wölfel is an alumnus of the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung. The project is funded as part of the "CZS Plus" alumni program.
