Promotion of a coordination office for the ChemLäb student program

Focus: Science Communication
Type of funding: Individual funding programmes
Programme: CZS Plus
Funded institution:
  • University of Freiburg

The ChemLäb of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers high school graduates the opportunity to carry out their own experiments in university research laboratories under the guidance of scientists.

Goals

Since the 2024/25 school year, ChemLäb at the University of Freiburg has been offering a teaching-compatible experimental module for secondary schools in the catchment area for five chemistry subjects. The aim of the outreach measure is to get pupils interested in chemistry and, in the best case, to encourage them to study chemistry. The clear motivation is to counteract the declining number of students and the associated loss of chemists on the job market. ChemLäb aims to make a contribution to remedying the shortage of skilled workers in chemistry. The funded coordination office is responsible for maintaining the website, managing registrations and coordinating between the five participating chemistry departments.
