Physician Scientist Program at HI-TAC

Focus: Life Science Technologies Talents
Type of funding: Large individual funding projects
Programme: CZS Individual funding
Funded institution:
  • Heidelberg University

The Physician Scientist Program at HI-TAC trains research-based physicians in vascular biomedicine, systems biology and cardiac research. The Helmholtz Institute is a cooperation between the University of Heidelberg and the Max Delbrück Center in Berlin.

Goals

The Helmholtz Institute for Translational AngioCardioScience (HI-TAC), founded in July 2023, brings together vascular biomedicine, systems biology and cardiac research. Here, the Physician Scientist Program promotes young clinical researchers. Clinically active physicians will be integrated into ongoing clinic-based research projects. To this end, financial resources are provided to enable physicians to be released from clinical routine to work on research questions for two years. The funded "Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung Physician Scientist Fellows" benefit from the extensive possibilities of a specialized, primarily preclinical research center as well as from the training infrastructure provided by the University of Heidelberg and the Max Delbrück Center.

The program thus supports translational cardiovascular research and research transfer at HI-TAC by integrating preclinical and clinical training.
