To enable the building sector to react more flexibly to fluctuating electricity generation from renewable sources, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Dell'Anna at Bingen University of Applied Sciences is researching technical solutions for controlling system technology in buildings and districts.

Goals

The energy transition poses challenges for energy suppliers. Electricity generation from renewable sources is subject to weather-related fluctuations, which can lead to grid bottlenecks.

One solution is sector coupling, in which the electricity sector is interlinked with the heating, transport and industrial sectors in order to create flexibility in electricity consumption. Current approaches include the building sector, but the focus is mainly on grid stability and less on adapting the building's internal supply technology.

The “netGQ” research project aims to develop and implement methods for grid-friendly control of system technology in buildings and neighborhoods. A digital twin is being developed to realistically simulate energy systems and resource flows in buildings and districts. The implementation and adaptation of the control technology is verified in the real laboratory.

The digital model is then transferred to other buildings and districts and compared with the real load profiles. It will be investigated how the identified flexibility potential can be used economically and integrated into the energy market.
