Disruptive electrode-electrolyte concepts beyond current scientific limitations - ECHELON

Focus: Resource efficiency
Type of funding: Project funding programmes
Programme: CZS Perspectives
Funded institution:
  • Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

An environmentally friendly removal of oxygen atoms from organic compounds is being researched for the use of electricity to convert substances into valuable products. The aim is to avoid the electrolytic evolution of hydrogen.

Goals

New innovative cathode materials are to be used to avoid electrolytic hydrogen evolution in the research project. This would make the process faster, simpler, less raw material-intensive and safer to carry out than previous approaches. The goal is close cooperation between theory and experiment and the development of reliable predictions.
