The "CircEL" project at the University of Freiburg is conducting interdisciplinary research into the technical and legal foundations for a genuine "Circular Economy" (CE). The central aim is to break down current barriers to CE and promote cooperation between engineering and law.
Goals
The "Circularity Engineering and Law" (CircEL for short) project at the University of Freiburg is developing the foundations of a sustainable circular economy. Researchers from the fields of engineering and law are working closely together for the first time. With an interdisciplinary perspective, the team is breaking down current technical and legal barriers to the recycling of technical products and developing new methods for selecting materials and processes.
The close cooperation between the disciplines is intended to develop technical solutions and legal transformations that support the systemic change towards circular value creation. A central concern is to improve communication between the disciplines in order to eliminate misunderstandings and obstacles and to promote mutually innovative approaches.
The project will run for six years and aims to contribute to a circular economy that is ecologically sound, legally feasible and economically viable.
