The call for proposals is intended to support universities of applied sciences in pursuing innovative research concepts with high social and/or economic relevance in the subject area of life science technologies and transferring them into practice.

Within the framework of the funding projects, concrete applications of life science technologies are to be developed or made possible that deal with concrete future issues of health care. These can be related to smart/digital/e-health or wearables, for example. Other fields of application can be new technologies for recording physical/biological parameters or integrated (bio)sensor technology, but are not limited to these. The research topics being worked on should contribute to enabling personalised health care in the future.

What are the application requirement specifications?

  • The project must align with the strategic orientation of the higher education institution. 
  • The project must strengthen an already established area of research at the higher education institution.
  • The project must have great potential in the practical application of the acquired knowledge.
  • The project must contribute to long-term strengthening of competencies in the research area.
  • The higher education institution must contribute at least 10 per cent of the requested funding.

Who is eligible to apply?

The funding activities of the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung are generally limited to the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia. The following Universities of applied sciences are eligible to apply under this call:

  • Baden-Württemberg: Aalen, Albstadt-Sigmaringen, Furtwangen, Mannheim, Offenburg, Pforzheim, Ravensburg, Stuttgart HfT, Ulm
  • Rhineland-Palatinate: Bingen, Kaiserslautern, Koblenz, Mainz, Trier
  • Thuringia: Jena, Erfurt, Schmalkalden, Nordhausen

The funding period is three years. The earliest possible project start date is 1 June 2023 and must be completed by no later than 1 October 2023.
