CZS Rethink

With this call for applications, the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung is supporting the integration of new courses on the topic of sustainability into existing engineering degree programmes (BA & MA) at universities in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate.

Detailed information:

Focus topic: Resource efficiency
Target groups: Professors
Funding budget: 400.000 €
Letter of intent deadline: 31.07.2024
Full proposal deadline: 21.10.2024

Sustainable thinking and action play a central role in sustainable economic activity. Technical solutions must be proactively adapted to available resources and designed for sustainability. This need is offset by a shortage of skilled workers who have both in-depth technical skills and expertise in sustainability and the circular economy.

In many existing engineering degree programmes, sustainability aspects have so far been barely or not at all anchored in the curricula. At the same time, the interest of new students and young professionals in sustainability topics is increasing.

This call for proposals supports universities in integrating sustainability aspects more strongly into engineering degree programmes. In the long term, the funding programme aims to train engineers who naturally take sustainability aspects into account. To this end, students must be taught holistic problem-solving skills in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary working environments.

The aim is to fundamentally integrate the topic of sustainability into engineering degree programmes.

Who is eligible to apply?

All universities with engineering degree programmes (according to the DFG subject classification system) in Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate are eligible to apply for this call.

Application documents are only available in German.

The funding period is up to 5 years. The project can start on 1 April 2025 at the earliest and must start by 1 December 2025 at the latest.
